A single small navy medallion holds a red tree at the center of this wonderful rug. A single small navy medallion, a diamond holding a red tree, sits at the center of a deep red field. The red runs a little paler toward one end. Around the medallion the field is planted with graceful comb-like trees, rosettes and small birds in rose and sage, none of them repeated exactly. A column ornament in rose and red stands at each end between hooked arms, sage at one end and blue at the other. Dark brown spandrels, stepped along their inner edge, close the four corners, and no border frames the field. A warm red field holds sage and rose figures that reward a second look. At 4'1" by 10'2", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Lori rugs
Until the early 20th century the tribes of southwestern Persia were mostly nomadic, moving between summer and winter pastures. Lori weaving comes from the Lur people of the western Zagros mountains. It is tribal work in the proper sense, woven on portable looms in formats that suited a tent rather than a hall. This rug shows it clearly. The geometry is bold and slightly loose. A single small diamond stands where a large medallion might, and the figures are placed one by one rather than in a repeat.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
