Small geometric vines and blossoms crowd the deep red field on this wonderful runner. At the center, a cream diamond medallion with a dainty red rosette sits on a deep red field crowded with small geometric vines and blossoms. Cream pointed corner pieces fill the field at both ends, filled with floral figures that echo the border. The main border has a cream ground carrying lovely red and blue flower heads linked by dark brown stems. Narrow guard stripes in dark brown and blue flank it. The pile is full across the face, and the small drawing stays sharp. It anchors a long passage, and the cream border brightens the heavy red ground. At 3'6" by 10'3", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
In the 5th century BCE the Greek historian Herodotus described Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, as ringed by seven concentric walls. In the second half of the 12th century the Seljuq sultans made Hamedan their capital, and it remained so for 50 years. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses, so many of the best vintage runners come from here. This runner keeps that long format. A single medallion and two pointed corner pieces organize the dense field, a formal layout stretched down the length.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
