The burgundy field of this wonderful rug is laced with a sage green lattice of diamonds that hold orange and teal rosettes. The burgundy field runs to coral rose in places, laced with a sage green lattice of diamonds that hold orange and teal rosettes. Pretty cream flowers and small brown shapes sit between the diamonds. There is no central medallion, and the pattern repeats down the full length of the rug. A wide olive brown main border carries a row of circles in cream and sage. A gold band with small circles runs across one end, and narrow cream guard stripes edge the border. The pile is full throughout, field and borders alike. It anchors a narrow passage with deep red and earth tones. At 3'10" by 12', it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Lori rugs
Until the early 20th century the tribes of southwestern Persia were mostly nomadic, moving between summer and winter pastures. Lori weaving comes from the Lur people of the western Zagros mountains, and it is tribal work in the proper sense. The rugs were woven on portable looms, in formats that suited a tent rather than a hall. The geometry is bold and slightly loose, and the colors are strong. This runner keeps the diamond lattice, set loosely. Its rosettes and curved sprays are softer than the bold geometry named above, and the colors run warm rather than strong.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
