Muted pink vines and rose blossoms make this a charming rug. Worked on a pink and cream field, muted pink vines and rose blossoms make a large central design. The medallion is a pink oval with a floral core, set inside a broad cream oval ring. Garlands of roses and leaves curve around it, and pretty rose clusters sit in the four corners. The main border uses a pale gray beige base, holding a chain of rosettes in dark brown and muted pink, with a narrow guard band inside it. The colors are softened by a light antique wash, though the drawing stays clear. Rose and cream tones give the floral design a gentle look. At 5'11" by 8'9", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Merchants of 1917 had a name for the most successful Turkish version of the Persian Tabriz carpet: “Isparta quality,” after the place where it was made. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. This piece has the tidy drawing of the type, with a clear oval medallion and scrolling vines set against the pale ground. The colors stay within that chalkier range, relying on muted pink and gray beige rather than strong primary tones.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
