This charming rug has an all-over repeat of scrolling vines and flower heads. The gray brown field carries an all-over repeat of delicate scrolling vines and small flower heads, with no central medallion to gather the design. Tiny sky blue accents dot the vine work, adding a cool note to the warm ground. The main border runs in a lighter gray beige, filled with pretty curling leaves and small blossoms that echo the field. Thin lines of brown vine run beside the border, setting it apart from the open center. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The pile is full over the face. Brown and pale blue notes stay close together across the surface. At 5'4" by 9'1", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Since 1850 carpet weaving in Isparta has passed through many stages, and it was the Oriental Carpet Company that first carried its carpets overseas. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. Here a continuous vine pattern covers the whole ground instead of a single focal point. The hues remain within a tight band of brown, beige and pale blue.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
