The cream field of this lovely rug holds a medallion outlined in gray brown vines. The cream field holds a medallion outlined in gray brown vines, with a small rosette at its core. Charming sprays of leaves and blossoms spread out from it across the open ground. A wide border in gray brown carries a dense pattern of leaves and blossoms around the edge. A few patches are worn thin. A full antique wash brings the colors together. The brown drawing rests lightly on the pale ground. At 5'6" by 8'10", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
The carpets of Isparta, known as “Isparta quality,” were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. Here the floral vines are arranged evenly over the cream ground. The gray brown border and the washed tones give it the muted look of the region.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
