Sprays of muted pink and cream flowers trail along the sides of this lovely rug. The field looks teal from a distance, leaving its center wide open. Delicate sprays of muted pink and cream flowers on leafy stems trail along the sides and gather into clusters at the four corners. The field carries no central medallion. No main border or guard stripes frame the field, so the sprays mark its edge. The pile is worn low across much of the field, where the foundation shows in pale streaks. Cool teal ground sets off the pink blossoms like a garden. At 6'6" by 10'2", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Under the name “Isparta quality” the carpets of Isparta were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. This piece keeps that calm in its open teal center. The pink and cream sprays stay close to the edges.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
