Rows of teal boteh fill a cream field on this charming runner. Rows of teal boteh, the paisley leaf-drop, fill a cream field inside a splendid teal vine lattice. Small cross shapes sit where the vines meet, and no medallion or corner pieces break the repeat. The pattern runs to the edge with no border to frame it. A light antique wash that left the drawing sharp has softened the colors. Pale patches show where the pile is low. The dense drawing keeps the teal notes steady against the pale ground. At 3'1" by 6'5", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
The carpets of Isparta, known as “Isparta quality,” were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. The Isparta carpet factory, a center of the craft for a wide region, kept working until 2008. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. This rug shows an even lattice of leaves. The teal motifs stay bright on the cream ground, with no border to close them in.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
