Small flower heads sit in tidy rows on this lovely rug. Charming scrolling vines and rosettes in light blue, slate blue and gray brown repeat over the cream field. No medallion interrupts it; small flower heads seen from above sit in tidy rows. The border has a soft pink ground, blue blossoms and brown leaves, with narrow bands of gray beige and brown beside it. The colors have softened under a light antique wash, and the drawing stays clear. Pile has worn low here and there, mostly along the borders. Because the drawing is so dense, the pale blues and pinks stay subtle against the cream. At 5'1" by 8'4", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In 1924, in the first years of the Turkish Republic, entrepreneurs of Isparta backed the founding of the Isparta Yarn Factory. The state-owned Sumerbank took over the Isparta carpet factory in 1943 and backed carpet making by hand there with new technology. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. This one keeps that orderly look through its flower heads laid out in even rows. Light blue and gray brown notes sit gently across the cream field, and the pink border adds the same soft warmth.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
