An oval medallion holds a vertical leaf spray on this lovely rug. Worked on a cream field, pretty gray brown vines and small blossoms form an orderly floral pattern. A handsome oval medallion stands at the center, holding a vertical leaf spray within a ring of rosettes. Large vine loops fill the four corners. The main border runs gray beige, carrying a scroll of dark brown leaves and flower heads. A full antique wash has left no color at strength. The pile is low in places across the face. The brown drawing adds contrast so the pale ground does not look stark. At 5'3" by 8'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
The state-owned Sumerbank took over the Isparta carpet factory in 1943 and backed carpet making by hand there with new technology. Until 2008 the Isparta carpet factory was still working, a center of the craft for a wide region. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, so the drawing is orderly. This rug pairs the cream ground with gray brown outlines rather than strong reds.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
