Rows of diamond guls sit in a cream lattice on this remarkable rug. Gray brown fills the field, framed by a splendid cream lattice holding rows of diamond guls in dark brown and rust. Small touches of green and red fill the spaces between the geometric figures. The pattern repeats across the face with no central medallion or corner pieces. A slim dark brown band frames the grid at the edge. The pile is full across the face. The cream lines lighten the dark brown geometric forms across this compact piece. At 1'4" by 3'8", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Torkaman rugs
The Salor, Tekke, Yomut and Ersari tribes each wove a recognizable variety of the Turkmen design. Tekke rugs are the most easily identified of the Turkmen, because the quartered gul of their larger carpets became something of a trademark and was often copied elsewhere. In northeastern Persia, Turkmen weavers keep to a strict grid of gul motifs, the same octagonal figure repeated across the field with almost no variation. That sounds austere, yet it is the opposite, because the drawing never changes and all the life is in the color. The piece retains that strict grid structure, with the diamond shapes arranged in vertical columns down the length. The palette mixes gray brown, cream and rust.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
