2675 · 3' x 2'6" Persian Kashan Accent Rug
Here the field is faded red, the border tan, and the drawing is done in dusty blue and muted pink. Hand-knotted in Kashan, Iran, in the 1970s, with a low pile that shows the drawing clearly. At 3' x 2'6" it works where a big rug cannot go, beside a bed or just inside a door.
Kashan is the central Iranian city most associated with the formal Persian rug: a central medallion, spandrels in the corners, and a field of curling vine and palmette. The wool is soft and takes madder deeply, which is why old Kashans hold such saturated reds. These were made as the best rug in a house, and the drawing carries that intent.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colours softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
