A central vase of blossoms makes this a delightful rug. A navy field holds a central vase of muted pink and powder blue blossoms with olive leaves. A beautiful cream cartouche with a notched edge frames this bouquet, separating the navy ground from the wide border. The main border is burgundy, filled with graceful scrolling vines and flower heads in cream and blue. The pile is even and full over the whole piece. It suits a corner, where the navy ground lets the soft floral colors stand clear. At 1'9" by 1'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Kerman rugs
The Wagner garden carpet of the Burrell Collection, made in Kerman under the Safavid dynasty, is the earliest garden carpet outside Asia. In the first half of the 20th century Kerman rugs were sold in the West under the name Kermanshah. Kerman is a city in southeastern Persia, long known for floral drawing in open, curving lines. This piece keeps that open drawing in the vase and the scrolling border vines. The navy ground sets the powder blue and muted pink flowers in bright relief against the navy center.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
