Three diamond medallions run down the center of this remarkable runner, each with a stepped burgundy core. Pretty geometric rosettes and hooked vines in red, teal and cream fill a deep indigo field. Three diamond medallions run down the center, each with a stepped burgundy core outlined in teal on a camel ground. Splendid red spandrels sit at the four corners of the field and carry small figures in teal. A cream main border holds angular motifs in teal and rust, framed by narrow guard stripes, steel blue inside and red outside. Full pile covers the face and every border. The indigo ground and teal notes cool the red drawing. At 3'7" by 9'10", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
In the 5th century BCE the Greek historian Herodotus described Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, as ringed by seven concentric walls. Several generations ago many rugs from the villages around Hamedan were traded through Mosul, and so were known as Mosul rugs. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses, so many of the best vintage runners come from here. This runner keeps that long format, with three diamonds stacked along its length. The cream main border is wide and open, a pale frame around the dark indigo field.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
