Scattered sprays of blossoms surround the central diamond medallion of this charming rug. On a deep red field, scattered sprays of muted pink and dark blue blossoms surround a central diamond medallion. The cream core of the medallion holds small rosettes, with notched pendants extending from the top and bottom points. Handsome dark blue spandrels fill the corners, carrying larger flower heads that echo the field motifs. A splendid burgundy main border carries a repeat of small red and cream blossoms. Narrow guard stripes frame the wide border on every side. The pile is full, which leaves the floral lines crisp. The dense layout spreads red and dark blue across the whole surface. At 2' by 2'6", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Hamedan was the capital of the Seljuq sultans for 50 years, from the second half of the 12th century. The Mongols destroyed Hamedan about 1220 and Timur sacked it in 1386, and the city was partly restored in the 17th century. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses. This small rug is nearly square. The deep red field holds the dark blue and cream in a busy arrangement that centers the pattern within the frame.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
