Rows of small pale forms repeat in an all-over lattice on this lovely rug. Deep red fills the field, where rows of small pale forms repeat in a pattern. The pattern runs across the face as an all-over lattice with no central medallion or corner spandrels. A gorgeous tan main border surrounds the field, carrying alternating navy and red rosettes linked by dainty olive green leaves. A thin near-black line separates this border from the red ground. Pile runs low in spots, and one end shows a lighter red band. It anchors a small floor space, keeping the warm red tone present without crowding the area. At 2'10" by 1'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

About Hamedan rugs
Greek writers credited Deioces, first king of the Medes, with founding Ecbatana around 678 BCE, and modern Hamedan is built partly on the mound that holds its remains. Avicenna, the physician and philosopher, died in Hamedan in 1037, and his tomb there was rebuilt in the 1950s as a mausoleum with a museum and a library. Hamedan is a city and weaving region in western Persia, and hundreds of villages around the city have sent rugs to its markets for generations. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses. This piece is a short rectangle, not a long corridor shape. The saturated red background sets off the tan frame and small blue details, organizing the design neatly within the small size.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
