Cream rosettes surround a central dark brown diamond medallion on this charming rug. Deep red fills the ground, and pretty cream rosettes surround a central dark brown diamond medallion holding a cross. Splendid cream spandrels fill the four corners with dark brown shapes against the red ground. The main border runs brown, carrying a repeating cream and red pattern along the edge. Pile runs low in spots, and white specks mark where the foundation shows. It suits a narrow space, and the red and cream read warm. At 1'8" by 3'1", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, was the capital of Media and later the summer residence of the Achaemenid kings. Hamedan was the capital of the Seljuq sultans for 50 years, from the second half of the 12th century. Hundreds of villages around the western Persian city of Hamedan have sent rugs to its markets for generations. Hamedan specializes in long narrow formats, woven for the corridors of local houses. This rug has a central medallion and distinct corner pieces in a geometric layout. The dark brown medallion anchors the red ground, and the cream rosettes lighten the center.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
