Two columns of cream and dark blue octagonal medallions run down this charming rug. A burgundy field holds two columns of cream and dark blue octagonal medallions. These medallions repeat down the length with no single center, their cores filled with stepped motifs and a small diamond pattern. A beautiful dark blue main border with a zigzag line edges the field, and a narrow guard stripe runs inside it. The pile is low in places across the burgundy ground, where white specks show. The dark blue border cools the warm red field. At 2'3" by 9'2", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Ferdos rugs
Travelers of the Safavid era remarked on the fine Khorasan carpets sold in the Persian Gulf port of Hormuz and in one of the main caravansaries of Isfahan. Khorasan has its classic carpets in those of Herat, and pieces in the herati pattern survive from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Ferdos lies in the Khorasan region of eastern Persia, in the same weaving belt as Birjand and Mashhad. This runner repeats its medallions down the length in two columns instead of gathering them at one center. The cream outlines stand out against the burgundy ground. The dark blue border gives the red field a cooler edge.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
