Stepped diamond medallions form a column down this lovely rug. A column of stepped diamond medallions runs the length of the burgundy field. Each medallion holds a graceful geometric rosette in navy, teal and rust, framed by a serrated cream band. The burgundy ground between the diamonds is filled with small angular motifs in deep red and ochre. A gorgeous red main border runs a chain of hooked geometric forms in rust, pink and teal. Thin guard stripes in navy frame the central field. The pile runs low in spots, where small pale flecks of foundation appear. It suits a tight corridor, letting the burgundy and cream hold the line. At 2'7" by 10'8", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Songhor rugs
Songhor lies in Kermanshah province in western Persia, Kurdish weaving country. Kermanshah, the city that gives Songhor’s province its name, was founded in the 4th century by the Sasanian king Bahram IV. Around the year 1000 the Kermanshah region was ruled by a Kurdish dynasty, the Hasanwayhids. Songhor rugs are geometric, with strong madder reds and deep blues. This runner keeps that geometric drawing, with stepped diamonds set firmly against the burgundy ground. The cream bands around each medallion bring a bright contrast to the deep field.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
