The large serrated diamond of this charming rug has a deep red band. A large serrated diamond with a deep red band holds a near-black ground filled with cream and red medallions. Small rosettes and stepped motifs float in the near-black space around the central shape. The corners continue this near-black ground, set with square geometric figures in cream and red. A narrow border of small geometric shapes in gray, cream and red frames the whole. The pile is low in places, and white specks appear across the surface. It brings a strong graphic weight to a small space. At 3'2" by 5'11", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Saveh rugs
Local tradition held that Saveh once stood on the shore of a lake that dried up at the moment the Prophet was born. The story goes that Saveh held one of the greatest libraries of the East until the Mongols destroyed it on their first invasion of Persia. Saveh lies between Tehran and Arak in central Persia, on old caravan ground. The village weaving here sits between the geometric north and the floral center: medallions with straight edges, but filled with vine and blossom. The palette is warm, built on madder red with cream alongside. This rug keeps the straight-edged medallion and the warm red, though the filling is geometric rather than floral. The near-black ground inside the diamond and in the corners sets off the red band.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
