Stylized trees and flowering plants fill the grid of compartments in this lovely rug. Worked on a deep red field, a grid of compartments in rust, cream and plum holds stylized trees and flowering plants picked out in olive and pink. No medallion interrupts the handsome grid, which fills the whole face with repeating figures. The main border is dark burgundy, carrying small cream and dark blue stepped forms. Narrow guard stripes in camel and red and cream checks run along each side of the border. The pile is worn low across much of the field, and the foundation shows in several compartments. It brings warmth to a room through its rust and brown compartments, with the cream panels lifting the grid. At 5'5" by 8'10", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

About Bakhtiari rugs
The Bakhtiari move their flocks 150 miles each year between winter pastures in the plains and summer pastures in the mountains. The 1925 film Grass followed that migration, with the men swimming the Karun River for three days beside rafts buoyed by inflated goatskins. Bakhtiari weaving comes from the Zagros mountains of western Persia, and its signature is the garden panel. The field is divided into a grid of compartments, each one holding its own tree, vase or flowering plant. The weavers were people who moved their herds twice a year. This rug keeps that layout, with a grid of compartments across the whole face. Rust compartments alternate with cream and plum ones, so the grid reads as a checkerboard of color.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
