Rows of small boteh in peach and orange-red repeat across this charming rug. Across a deep red field, rows of small boteh repeat in peach and orange-red. Nothing interrupts the all-over pattern, which runs the full length of the runner. The handsome main border is navy, set with small peach and cream blossoms, and a thin red guard stripe edges it on both sides. Each boteh has a peach crown over an olive base. The pile is full across the field, with a few white specks. Small motifs break up the warm red, so it stays light as a line down a hall. At 2'9" by 11'2", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Botteh rugs
Mughal emperors promoted and exported textiles decorated with the boteh, which were much appreciated in Europe. In termeh, a luxurious woven cloth of Persia, the boteh was the most common design. Botteh is not a place but a motif: the teardrop with the bent tip that Europe later borrowed and called paisley. The motif appears from the tribal south to the city workshops of the center. This runner sets small boteh in tight rows down the red ground. The navy border holds the bright field, and the small scale of the drawing suits the long, narrow format.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
