Dark blue and cream diamond medallions make this a lovely runner. Stepped diamond medallions in dark blue and cream cover the deep red field, linked by a vertical axis with small geometric hooks. Each lozenge holds a red core framed by serrated edges and tiny white accents. The splendid outer border runs terracotta, carrying angular shapes in dark blue, brown and black around the perimeter. A thin dark blue guard band encloses the pattern. Pile runs low in spots across the field. The dark blue holds the warm red in place, forming a bold tribal line down a hall. At 3'8" by 7'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Shiraz rugs
Shiraz was the capital of Persia from 1760 to 1779, in the reign of Karim Khan. The Qashqai tribal confederacy was formed in the late 18th century, during or just after the rule of Karim Khan Zand in Shiraz. Rugs sold under the name Shiraz were woven by tribal and village weavers around the market city of Fars province in southern Persia. Geometric and often asymmetric drawing is the rule, with small stylized animals and birds turning up in the field. This runner keeps that geometric character in its stepped diamonds. The dark blue motifs stand hard against the red ground.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
