This charming rug has a central cream medallion on a deep red field. The deep red field carries rows of small navy boteh, the paisley leaf-drop, around a central cream medallion. This hexagon holds stepped geometric forms in rust and blue, with short pendants at either end. Splendid cream spandrels fill the corners of the field, each packed with more of the small leaf shapes. A cream main border runs a line of small figures in blue and muted pink, with a near-black band on its inner edge. The pile is low in places across the middle, where pale flecks show the weave. It brings a strong red line and a touch of pink to a narrow passage. At 3'7" by 7'3", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Lori rugs
Until the early 20th century the tribes of southwestern Persia were mostly nomadic, moving between summer and winter pastures. Lori weaving comes from the Lur people of the western Zagros mountains, and it is tribal work in the proper sense. The rugs were woven on portable looms, in formats that suited a tent rather than a hall. The geometry is bold and slightly loose, and the colors are strong. This runner keeps that bold geometry in its stepped medallion and the loose repeat of the small leaf shapes across the red field. The muted pink in the border sits beside a near-black inner band, a near-black frame for the strong red.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
