This delightful rug has faint bands of pale green on a teal field. Worked on a teal field, faint horizontal bands of pale green and dark teal drift across the open ground. No medallion or corner pieces break the surface, and no border frames the edge. The pile is full across the face. Blue and green tones fill this small rug without any pattern to follow. At 1'8" by 1'10", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Gabbeh rugs
Gabbeh is a style rather than a place: tribal weaving from the Zagros country of southern Persia, with a long pile and almost no pattern. The Metropolitan Museum of Art owns a gabbeh of the late 19th century, which came to it with the Ballard Collection in 1922. Tribal weaving was the work of women, who spun, dyed the yarn and wove on small portable looms. A field of one or two colors may carry a stylized animal or a few blocks. They were woven for a family’s own floor, not for sale. This piece keeps that open field, showing only soft shifts in tone instead of a worked figure. The teal ground holds specks of pale green throughout the weave.

Full care guideReturns
If a rug isn’t right for your space, get in touch within 7 days of delivery (14 days in the European Union) and we’ll help arrange a return or exchange. Because each piece is one of a kind, we handle every return personally.
Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
