The deep red field of this remarkable rug holds two large stepped diamond medallions. The deep red field holds two large stepped diamond medallions stacked vertically. Each medallion has a dark brown core with small geometric motifs in ochre and light blue. Olive spandrels fill the side spaces with angular leaf shapes and small diamonds against the red ground. The beautiful main border runs light blue, carrying small red and orange blossoms along the edge. The pile is full over the face, keeping the lines crisp. It holds a warm note in a tight spot. At 1'10" by 2'6", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Asadabad rugs
Rugs from the villages around Hamedan were taken to the city, long one of the great rug markets of Persia, and were often sold abroad under its name. Several generations ago many of these rugs were traded through Mosul, and so were known as Mosul rugs. Asadabad sits west of Hamedan in western Persia, on the road toward Kermanshah. The weaving is village work in the Hamedan manner, with geometric drawing and a palette built on madder and indigo. This rug has stepped medallions and angular corner pieces set against the red field. The olive spandrels and light blue border frame the central diamonds.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
