A dense all-over lattice of vines and rosettes covers this charming rug. Across a gray beige field, lovely smoke gray vines and small rosettes repeat in an all-over lattice with no central medallion. The drawing covers the ground evenly, leaving little open space between the scrolling stems and leaves. There are no corner pieces to break the pattern, so the design runs to the edges. A thin dark brown line sets off a gray beige border that repeats small geometric motifs and stylized blossoms. A full antique wash has brought every color to one warmth, none at strength. Pale vertical streaks of wear run down the face, and pale foundation shows here and there. The dense drawing keeps the eye moving over the muted tones without resting on one spot. At 5'3" by 8'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
