The camel field of this charming rug holds a central medallion. Across a camel field, a central medallion holds cream and brown floral shapes within a lobed outline. Small brown pendants reach from the top and bottom of this center toward the open ground. Cream corners carry graceful scrolling vines and dark brown rosettes. The handsome main border runs gold, with round flower heads and leaves in cream and olive green. Narrow guard stripes of small marks edge the frame on both sides. A light antique wash softened the colors without reaching the drawing. A few patches show white where the pile has thinned. It brings the gold and green notes together against the camel ground. At 5'2" by 7'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
The Metropolitan Museum of Art notes that the workshops of Gordes, a Manisa town, were particularly active in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Since 1997 its hand-woven carpets have carried a protected geographical mark. Western Anatolian weavers around Manisa worked between village geometry and floral court taste. Medallions from the villages sit beside flowing vines from the western looms. This camel rug follows that pattern, with a lobed center, scrolling corners and a border of round flower heads.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
