This lovely rug has a large star medallion with a small diamond core. Fine gray brown line work and stepped vines cover the cream field, leaving wide open space around the center. A large star medallion holds a small diamond core, with matching pendants extending toward the top and bottom. Scalloped corners are filled with charming curling leaves and round flower heads. A gorgeous gray beige border carries a chain of geometric blossoms in dark brown, with thin stripes of small repeating marks on each side. Pile has thinned in a few spots across the face. Gray brown drawing rests gently against the pale ground. At 4'11" by 8'6", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.

In Demirci, a district of Manisa, almost every household has been known to keep a carpet loom. Since 1997 the hand-woven carpets of Gordes, a district of Manisa, have carried a protected geographical mark. Manisa sits inland from the Aegean, and its rugs mix village and workshop habits. Geometric star medallions and rounded floral borders can share one field. This piece pairs a stepped star center with scalloped corners and a frame of round blossoms.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
