A lobed central medallion stands on the cream field of this lovely rug. A faint gray brown drawing of vines and blossoms surrounds a central medallion across the cream field. The medallion is a lobed shape holding a small floral core. Large spandrels in the corners hold scrolling vine loops that mirror the border design. The handsome main border reads gray beige, filled with small flowers and curling leaves worked in darker tones. Narrow gray brown stripes run along both long sides of the field. No color is left at strength, because the rug had a full antique wash that left one warm level. In places the pile has worn low over the face. The soft gray and cream tones rest against the floor. At 5'5" by 8'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
Almost every household in Demirci, a district of Manisa, has been known to keep a carpet loom. Manisa sits inland from the Aegean coast, and its weavers worked between two traditions. A single rug can hold the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops. These pieces were made for houses, not for export, so the sizes are practical and the drawing is unfussy. This piece retains that blend, with a lobed medallion framed by vine scrolls and corner ornaments. Its palette of cream and gray brown matches the warm, faded look recorded for the area, and the drawing stays clear across the whole field.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
