A charming central medallion with a flower at its core sits on the cream field. Worked on a cream field, gray brown vines trace a central medallion with a flower at its core and sprays of blossoms around it. Lovely leafy sprigs reach into the field corners outlined in that same thin brown. A handsome gray beige border is set with long leaf sprays and small blossoms in gray brown. A narrow guard stripe frames the field inside the border. A light antique wash has softened the colors without reaching the drawing. A few patches of low pile show the foundation in pale spots. It suits a sunlit room, with its gray brown drawing kept restrained on the cream ground. At 5'6" by 9'1", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
Suleiman the Magnificent sent his own son, Prince Selim, to govern Manisa in 1544, a posting that had come to mark a prince as a candidate for the throne. The carpets of Kula, in Manisa province, first appear in the 17th century, and the town made its best pieces in the 18th and 19th centuries. Inland from the Aegean coast, Manisa weaves between two traditions: the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops. Here the floral side leads, with a rounded medallion and trailing sprays across the field. Cream and gray brown give the palette a warm, faded cast.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
