A central stepped medallion stands on the cream field of this remarkable runner. Over a cream field, geometric motifs in burgundy and dark brown gather around a beautiful central stepped medallion. Below it, a column of lovely hooked vines and small rosettes runs down the length. Wide side panels carry large feathered leaves in burgundy and brown, balancing the open field. The main border runs deep burgundy with a repeat of small diamonds and hooks, edged by narrow guard stripes. The pile is full over the face. The bright ground offsets the dark reds along this narrow passage. At 2'11" by 6'2", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Baluch rugs
In Afghanistan most Baluch lived until recently in tents or small villages close to the western border. Older Baluch rugs are typically dark, in reds, browns and blues with touches of white, and many have long striped aprons at both ends. Baluch rugs come from the semi-nomadic groups of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan. Formats are small because the looms were portable, and the designs repeat a few motifs that traveled between camps. This rug keeps that small format and the repeating geometric motifs, with the dark reds and browns set against the light ground. The cream field opens up the drawing and lets the hooked vines and diamond shapes stand out along the length.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
