Rows of large teal lobed medallions repeat across this lovely runner. Worked on a gray brown field, rows of large teal lobed medallions hold small cream crosses and muted pink details. A column of small diamond shapes runs down the center between these paired forms. Handsome stepped brown motifs, small rosettes and fine teal outlines fill the spaces around each medallion, and a narrow border band frames the field. A few patches near the middle read paler, with the pile thinned and the weave showing. Laid in a passage, the cool teal and warm brown share the narrow space without competing. At 2'11" by 6'4", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
Manisa, Gordes, Demirci and Kula were among the carpet towns of western Anatolia where the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers had set up agencies by April 1909. Since 1997 the hand-woven carpets of Gordes, a district of Manisa, have carried a protected geographical mark. Manisa lies inland from the Aegean coast, and its weaving sits between two traditions. You find the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops in the same region. This rug keeps paired geometric medallions in a strict column, set against a gray brown ground. The teal outlines bring a cool note to the faded palette, while the drawing stays unfussy and practical for a narrow space.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
