A dense floral repeat in brown and gray beige makes this a lovely runner. On a cream field, scrolling vines and palmettes in brown and gray beige form a dense floral repeat. Delicate curling leaf and flower forms fill the open ground between the larger vine shapes. A narrow brown border band frames the field. The pile is low in places, and a light antique wash softened the colors without reaching the drawing. Warm brown and cool gray beige notes join here in a neutral palette. At 2'10" by 6', it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Since 1850 carpet weaving in Isparta has passed through many stages, and it was the Oriental Carpet Company that first carried its carpets overseas. In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug shows that order in its scrolling vines and repeating leaves. The cream ground holds back while the brown drawing runs the length of the rug.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
