A trellis of gray beige vines covers this remarkable rug. Set within an ivory field, a trellis of gray beige vines links small brown rosettes and blossoms in rows across the rug. The drawing repeats with no central medallion, and plain ivory ground shows between the floral clusters. A wide gray brown border carries a chain of lovely cream blossoms and leaves, with a dark brown band running along its inner edge. Narrow cream stripes edge the outer side. The pile is full across the face and in the borders. Brown and cream notes stay together across one flat plane. At 5'6" by 9'6", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Since 1850 carpet weaving in Isparta has passed through many stages, and it was the Oriental Carpet Company that first carried its carpets overseas. In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. This rug is true to the orderly town style, with the floral trellis set in strict rows. It rests almost entirely on ivory and gray brown rather than rose or madder.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
