A large octagonal medallion with notched pendants makes this a charming rug. The gray brown field holds a large octagonal medallion with notched pendants at the top and bottom. Inside the medallion, dainty scrolling vines in smoke gray surround a small star shape in muted pink. Handsome smoke gray corner spandrels fill each field corner with curling leaves and small blossoms. A border in gray beige carries a row of flower heads and geometric marks. Wear has taken the face down low throughout, and the foundation shows in places. The pink and gray notes hold back. At 4' by 6'11", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Anatolian rugs
The nomadic herders of Turkey, the Yoruk, live in black goat-hair tents and travel between winter and summer pastures. From 1908 to 1914 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers employed 50 to 60 thousand carpet weavers in Anatolia alone, working at home. Anatolian is the broad name for the village weaving of the Turkish interior, and it covers a lot of ground. The shared character is geometry over floral drawing, and a palette that reads warmer and chalkier than Persian work. These were house rugs, woven to be used. This rug keeps that bold drawing in one large medallion with pendants. The gray brown field and the soft pink drawing rest at a single warm level.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
