A faded central medallion with pendants at each end sits on this charming rug. Across a gray beige field, a faded central medallion holds graceful scrolling vines in rose and gray brown. The drawing is faint, with the pink core barely visible against the warm ground. Pendants at each end echo the central shape. Touches of red and rose show near the ends. The pile is worn low over the whole rug, and the foundation shows through near the middle. Rose and brown tones remain muted across the surface. At 4' by 7'3", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Anatolian rugs
The carpets called “Holbein” were woven in Anatolia as early as the 14th century and became popular in Europe from the 15th century on. So many western Anatolian carpets shipped to Europe in the 1600s and 1700s were given to churches in Romania and Hungary that they became known as “Transylvanian” carpets. Anatolian is the broad name for the village weaving of the Turkish interior, and it covers a lot of ground. The shared character is geometry over floral drawing, and a palette that reads warmer and chalkier than Persian work: cream, rose, soft green, madder. These were house rugs, woven to be used. This piece keeps the faint outline of one central shape. The gray beige field and the rose drawing blend into a single warmth, with the colors eased by wear.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
