The round star medallion, with its tan and blue ring, sets the tone for this charming rug. Worked on a cream field, lovely navy scrolling vines carry small blossoms and palmettes in tan, blue and wine. A round star medallion anchors the center, a tan and blue ring around a wine and pale blue star, with a heart-shaped palmette above and below. Small tan and teal palmette pieces sit in the field’s four corners. The beautiful main border is cream, set with navy vines and wine and tan diamond cartouches, between tan bands scrolled in navy. The pile has thinned in a few patches, with white specks scattered across the field and along the top border. The cool blue drawing sits gently on the warm ground in a bright room. At 7'9" by 11'10", it fits a dining table for four with the chairs pulled out, or a living room with the sofa and chairs fully on it.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Kashan rugs
It was long the custom to bring raw silk from other places to Kashan to be spun and dyed there. Only about twenty of the silk carpets of the 1500s credited to Kashan are known to survive, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art owns four of them. Kashan is the central Persian city most associated with the formal Persian rug. These were made as the best rug in a house, and the drawing carries that intent. The ground is cream and the drawing is mostly navy and tan, with the round star medallion at the center.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
