1453 · 8'10" x 12'6" Persian Kashan Oversized Rug

The scrolling vines and palmettes on the navy field set the tone for this remarkable rug. Scrolling vines, palmettes and flower heads in gold, cream and pale blue crowd the navy field. A gorgeous star medallion sits at the center, its points worked in pale blue and gold around a small red core. No separate corner pieces interrupt the field; the dense drawing runs on to its edges. The wide outer border runs navy too, carrying gold palmettes and curling vines. Inside it, a pale blue band with small gold flower heads sits between thin guard lines. The pile is even, with a few small low specks in the border. It brings a deep, formal weight to a room, the gold drawing glowing against the dark ground. At 8'10" by 12'6", it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
