This wonderful rug has a large cream diamond medallion with stepped pendants. Over a deep red field, small geometric diamonds and floral shapes in cream, gold and green repeat around the center. A large cream diamond medallion sits in the middle, filled with dense red and navy motifs and stepped pendants at the top and bottom. The gorgeous border is deep red, with a row of tiny cream and gold figures. The pile is full over the medallion, the field and the border. Red tones and crisp angular lines fill this compact piece. At 1'6" by 2'2", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Bijar rugs
Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, placed Bijar a hundred miles beyond Hamedan on the road to Tabriz. Bijar weavers made a remarkable number of vagirehs, sample pieces showing portions of several patterns and borders, used as models for large carpets. Bijar in Kurdistan has long been called the iron rug of Persia. The designs are geometric. This rug keeps that character in its stepped medallion and the repeating diamond shapes across the field. The deep red ground holds the cream and gold details in clear contrast.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
