4069 · 3'1" x 8'3" Persian Ardabil Runner Rug

A linked chain of stepped hexagonal medallions fills this lovely rug. Across a near-black field, three stepped hexagonal medallions form one linked chain, outlined in bright red with aubergine bands. Each core is red, worked with crossed gray and rose lines and edged in orange hooks. A handsome cream main border carries square cartouches in rust, gray and pink around blue-green flowers, with pretty violet berry sprigs between them. Narrow guard stripes in red, with a zigzag vine of blue-green and violet flowers, run inside and outside the border. Full pile covers the runner, with scattered low flecks in the field. It holds a strong graphic line in a narrow space, the near-black ground balancing the warm red steps. At 3'1" by 8'3", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.
