A red diamond lattice with cream rosettes covers this remarkable rug. Set within a navy field, lovely cream rosettes and small blossoms repeat inside a beautiful red diamond lattice. The design covers the ground as an all-over pattern with no central medallion to anchor the eye. A wide deep red border carries large cream palmettes and curling teal leaves around the perimeter. A broad tan stripe edges the border on the inside, with a narrow dark blue stripe at the outer edge. The pile is low in places across the navy field and along one side of the border. The dense drawing holds the navy, red and cream together in a tight grid. At 3'7" by 5'3", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Tabriz rugs
From the middle of the 1800s commercial carpet weaving revived in Persia, and Tabriz was one of its most important centers, weaving largely for Europe. The Swiss firm Ziegler, in time the biggest exporter of carpets from Persia, had its first lucky break in Tabriz in 1876. Tabriz in northwestern Persia has a city workshop tradition, and the discipline of the drawing shows it. Borders turn cleanly at the corners, and the vine scrolls follow a plan laid out in full before weaving began. This rug keeps that clean corner turn and the planned vine scroll in its deep red border. The field uses an all-over lattice of rosettes on navy rather than a single centered shape, filling the small format with a continuous garden.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
