Olive vines link a column of diamond medallions across this lovely rug. The burgundy field holds a column of diamond medallions linked by olive vines and small cream blossoms. Muted pink and cream accents fill the geometric shapes within the central lattice. The pattern repeats down the length without corner spandrels, running straight to the inner frame. A near-black main border carries graceful muted pink rosettes and stylized flowers. Brown guard stripes with small geometric marks run along each side of the border. A few patches have worn low near the middle. The dense drawing keeps the red ground busy and warm against the near-black frame. At 3'1" by 6'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, was the capital of Media and later the summer residence of the Achaemenid kings. The physician and philosopher Avicenna died in Hamedan in 1037, and in the 1950s his tomb there was rebuilt as a mausoleum with a museum and a library. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses. Muted pink and cream details pick out the lattice against the burgundy ground.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
