A large indigo diamond sits at the center, holding the same floral pattern within a stepped green and cream outline. Indigo corner triangles close the four corners, set off from the field by a matching zigzag line. A narrow cream and green border with small figures edges the rug, between guard stripes in cream and dark green. Full pile covers the face, keeping every motif sharp and clear. Dense drawing balances the warm red ground with cool blue accents, holding the eye. At 4'11" by 8'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

About Mahal rugs
In the late 19th century the Ziegler company of Arak, then called Sultanabad, was the biggest exporter of oriental carpets from Persia. It had its rugs made less complex than traditional Persian carpets, so that they would not look out of place in European homes. Mahal rugs come from the villages around Arak in central Persia, and they were woven large and open from the start. That means a wide field, generous spacing between the motifs, and a palette that leans soft rather than saturated. This rug keeps that open feel, letting the rust ground breathe between the repeating flowers. The central diamond gathers the pattern into one bold shape instead of scattering it across the whole face.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
