The scrolling vines across the cream field look wonderful. A cream field carries a fine web of scrolling vines, with charming palmette sprays and small blossoms in tan and blue. At the center sits a splendid round medallion built in layers, its navy points and gray blue rings opening around a small rosette. Blue scrollwork on cream curls into the corners. The cream main border repeats the vine and flower pattern between wide tan guard bands, with a narrow blue stripe along the edge. The pile is short and smooth, so every curl of the vine stays crisp. The airy look suits a big room, and the navy lines give it enough weight to hold the floor. At 9'6" by 12'10", it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Nain rugs
Carpet weaving was revived in Isfahan in the second quarter of the 20th century and expanded rapidly, making carpets for the European market. Near Isfahan, Nain sits on the edge of the central desert. Few Persian towns built their weaving reputation in the twentieth century rather than centuries earlier, and Nain is among them. The palette is unusually pale for Persia, with ivory grounds and soft blue, and the knotting holds closely worked vine patterns. This rug follows that line: the warm cream ground, the blue and tan accents and the web of vines are all typical Nain. What sets it apart is the navy, kept at full strength in the medallion points and the fine outlines.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
