The small lobed medallion in tan makes a delightful focus at the center. A deep red field is worked with dainty scrolling vines, palmettes and blossoms in ivory and blue. At the center sits a small lobed medallion in tan, framed in navy, with a blue heart. The medallion-and-corners plan comes from hand-tooled book covers, and here the navy corner pieces hold tan patches with touches of blue. The gorgeous near-black main border, a deep navy, winds palmettes, rosettes and curling leaves in red, ivory and blue. Blue bands with small rosettes run inside and outside it, each edged by a narrow ivory guard stripe. It anchors a room with pale walls and dark floors; the red and navy give it a strong center, and the blue bands keep the edges light. At 9'10" by 13', it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.
