5564 · 7'3" x 10'10" Persian Bakhtiari Oversized Rug

In the cream main border, wonderful octagonal cartouches are outlined in dark brown. Flowering sprays and a central medallion fill the deep red field, worked in near-black, rust and salmon. The medallion is a lobed form in near-black and rust, with a small rosette at its core and pendants at the top and bottom. Splendid near-black spandrels, edged with cream leaf tips and dense with graceful curling vines, sit in each field corner. The main border runs cream, carrying octagonal cartouches outlined in dark brown, with small blossoms in rust and near-black. Narrow checkered stripes in near-black and red run along both sides of the border. Full pile covers the field, with only a scatter of pale specks in the red. The dense drawing fills a room with red, and the cream border lightens the edges. At 7'3" by 10'10", it fits a dining table for four with the chairs pulled out, or a living room with the sofa and chairs fully on it.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
