A dense all-over pattern of small black boteh makes this a lovely rug. Rows of small black boteh repeat across a deep red field, each teardrop holding a touch of muted pink. No medallion anchors the design, only this dense all-over pattern. The main border is muted pink, set with angular geometric motifs in black and red. Narrow guard stripes in near-black with small red crosses flank the border on either side, and the border turns neatly at each corner. A few patches have worn low, and white specks show where the weave is thin. The repeating teardrops draw the eye ahead through a narrow passage. At 3'5" by 10'1", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Botteh rugs
The boteh, mostly known now as the paisley, is an ancient Persian design based on the tree of life and inspired by buds, cones and palm fronds. The shawls of the Scottish town of Paisley were so prominent on the market that the boteh has been called the paisley ever since. Botteh is a motif, the teardrop with the bent tip that Europe later borrowed and called paisley. The boteh is the organizing figure of rugs cataloged this way, repeated across the field in rows. It appears everywhere from the tribal south to the city workshops of the center. This runner keeps that repeating figure in its dense field of small black shapes on red. The muted pink border carries a geometric drawing that frames the warm red ground.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
