This charming rug has an all-over repeat of scrolling vines and flower heads. The faded red field holds an all-over repeat of scrolling vines and small flower heads in cream and gray brown. No central medallion anchors the design, so the pattern flows evenly from end to end. The main border is warm gray, carrying a dainty vine scroll with dusty rose blossoms. Pile runs low through the center, with the foundation showing in patches. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. A soft red ground meets a gray border that keeps the warmth in check. At 4'5" by 7'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
A single agency in Isparta had about 25,294 square meters of carpet woven in homes in the first half of 1911, the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. Here the vines are laid out in even rows across the red ground. The warm gray border and the dusty rose notes give it the chalkier look of the region.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
