This charming rug has a central medallion with a serrated edge. Across a rust field, small teal blossoms and near-black vines curl around a central medallion. The medallion has a serrated edge and holds a smaller gray beige shape at its core. Handsome green spandrels fill the four corners beside charcoal leaf forms. The main border is gray beige, carrying a row of charcoal geometric shapes and small flowers. Thin guard stripes featuring a teal line flank the frame on either side. Pile has thinned in a few patches over the rust ground, showing the weave beneath in the open areas. The warm rust and cool green sit together without competing. At 5'7" by 8'6", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
The future Suleiman the Magnificent governed Manisa as a young prince for about seven years, until he became sultan in 1520. By April 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers had set up agencies in the carpet towns of western Anatolia, among them Manisa, Gordes, Demirci and Kula. Inland from the Aegean coast, Manisa weaves between two traditions. The geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops often meet in the same rug. This rug retains that blend, pairing a defined central form with scrolling vines across the field. Made for houses rather than for export, Manisa pieces come in practical sizes, and the drawing stays unfussy. The rust ground gives this rug a warm tone, and the green corners keep the palette grounded.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
